Wellington Shore Excursions

Most cruise liners dock at Aotea Quay which is around a 20 minutes’ walk into the centre of Wellington – New Zealand’s cosmopolitan capital city.

A stroll along the quayside with its fascinating sculptures and wooden walkways is recommended plus there are also many shops and cafes in the near vicinity. Wellington is quite small so most attractions can be reached on foot from the ship, although a shuttle operates from the port.

Attractions worthy of a visit include Te Papa Museum – full of innovative and interactive exhibits, as well as Wellington Cable Car Museum – and passengers can still travel in this iconic way to the Wellington Botanic Garden and Observatory at the top of a steep hill which offers panoramic views over the city.

More adventurous passengers can also opt for a ‘Lord of the Rings’ tour via helicopter – an unforgettable trip which takes in the spectacular locations used in the film.
