Sardinia Shore Excursions
The majority of cruise liners visiting Sardinia dock either in Porto Cervo, which is in the northeast of the island, or Cagliari in the south. Porto Cervo is the gateway to Cost Smeralda which is packed with tourists during the summer months and is a haunt of the rich and famous – having been a favourite of the Aga Khan in the 1960’s. The Piazza Azzurra is the main area for restaurants and cafes and a popular place for enjoying lunch whilst people watching.
Alghero is an attractive Catalan town nearby featuring medieval buildings and cobbled streets. Cruise passengers can take part in many activities close to the ports including scuba diving around the caves of Capo Caccia or trekking through the Gola Su Gorrupo canyon. The Trenino Verde (Little Green Train) is an historic steam locomotive which runs through scenic areas including Mt. Gennargentu, an area of rare unspoilt beauty.
