Reykjavik shore excursions

The biggest cruise liners dock at Skarfabakki, which is around five minutes from downtown Reykjavik, while smaller ships can dock at Midbakki – the old harbor in the city. Passengers on a cruise which stops off at Reykjavik usually have only 12 to 24 hours at their disposal so should plan in advance the attractions and activities which will interest them. Many passengers head for Thingvelir National Park as well as the Gullfloss waterfall and the Geysir geyser area. The Blue Lagoon, located in the Reykjanes peninsula is around 45 minutes from Reykjavik and is a relaxing shore trip, popular with cruise passengers. If culture and history are required on a shore excursion then Reykjavik has plenty to offer with many museums located within walking distance of the port, plus there are many stylish boutiques and high class restaurants featuring authentic Nordic cuisine, especially freshly caught fish.
