The port of New Orleans is one of America’s most popular home ports, and is a popular stop off point for cruise liners. Passengers have brand new facilities awaiting them at Erato Street Terminal which can accommodate even the largest of liners.
Shore trips from the ships have to include a visit to the French Quarter with Bourbon Street a particular attraction.
The art galleries, antique stores and restaurants on Royal Street are also a huge draw for tourists, as well as the Superdome and the Aquarium of the Americas – newly reopened after ‘Hurricane Katrina’s devastating visit back in 2005. Shopping facilities at Riverwalk Marketplace and the Casino at Harrah’s Hotel are at cruise passengers disposal during a trip ashore, and for those who want to witness firsthand the havoc caused by Hurricane Katrina visitors can take a three hour tour which focuses on the outside of the downtown area of New Orleans.
