Cruise passengers docking at Livorno Pier, in Italy’s Tuscany area, have the opportunity to take a day shore trip to Florence, which is around a one and a half hour’s drive from the port.
The city was given prime status by the Medici family and a series of Medici canals connect many of the impressive religious and civic buildings in the 17th century Nuova Venezia quarter.
The seafront offers palm trees, cliffs, beaches and tamarisks, plus the Medici Fortress. The promenade features spas, art exhibitions, beautiful villas as well as restaurants and bars where passengers can enjoy the famous local cacciucco fish stew whilst overlooking the sea.
