Cruise passengers stopping over at Havana will dock at the Terminal Sierra Maestra which is ideally placed for a shore excursion, being right in the centre of town.
Havana is ideal for exploring on foot since much of the city is pedestrianized. ‘Must see’ attractions include Havana’s many Plazas including Plaza de Armas n Old Havana – with its musicians, booksellers and art stalls.
Plaza Viega, which dates back to the 16th century, has many bars and cafes which feature live Cuban music. The Milecon is the beachfront promenade and makes for a bracing four mile walk, and the Catedral de San Cristobel is worth a visit.
The restored Hotel Ambos Mudos played host to legendary writer Ernest Hemingway who wrote ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ here. The National Fine Arts Museum displays Cuban art, while the military fortress Castillo de Los Tres Santos Reyes del Morro is worthy of a visit.
