Being the first of a new series of ships under the Holland America Line brand, the Volendam is in service starting with 1999. It is usually deployed in the Caribbean during the winter season. In the summer season, it can be seen in the Alaska region. Till now, Volendam, is well known for having the highest capacity in the company’s fleet. It was the first cruise ship to have a dedicated Internet center having computer stations permanently connected to satellites.
The cruise ship reflects a combination between new technologies and classic design. Volendam is equipped with a series of features, capable to create a comfortable atmosphere. The cruise ship has its own restaurant, Internet center, along with a near-by play room. The interior design is quite diverse, containing styles starting from the 17th to 21st Centuries. The personnel is predominantly Filipino and Indonesian. The officers come from Europe, and especially from Holland. The cruise ship has special facilities for wheelchairs.
